On Monday morning, Kamala Harris has posted a video on her Twitter account announcing her presidential bid in 2020. In video she has teased the beginning of her official campaign which will take place in Oakland on Sunday.
“Justice. Decency. Equality. Freedom. Democracy. These aren’t just words. They’re the values we as Americans cherish. And they’re all on the line now”, Harris said. “The future of our country depends on you and millions of others lifting our voices to fight for our American values. That’s why I’m running for president of the United States”.

Harris who is an active critic of President Donald Trump, has argued that she is ready to stand up and fight against the “injustices of the past two years of the Trump presidency”.
She also came on ABC’s Good Morning America and shared: “I love my country. [She will] fight for the best of who we are”. Harris also added that she wants her supporters to join her to “claim our future”.
In 2016, Kamala Harris was elected as California senator and served as the state’s attorney general. Previously, she served two terms as a district attorney of San Francisco.
Her parents are immigrants from Jamaica and India and Harris is therefore ambitious to give ethnic minorities a voice and aims to promote gender equality as well as race and social groups.
Harris is the first African American woman to run for the White House in 2020 and one of the four female candidates taking part in the presidential bid.
Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Tulsi Gabbard, John Delaney, and Julian Castro are also set to run for president.
The 2020 presidential election will be the first where more than one woman will compete in the campaign. And Kamala Harris will bring more diversity with her ethnic background.
The rising Harris has proved her strong beliefs and convictions and what she is ready to do for the country. During her intense questioning of Justice Brett Kavanaugh about his views on abortion and the continuing investigation into the suspected Russian intervention in the 2016 presidential election, Harris has gained much attention and respect from Democrats.
A strong-minded woman who fights for peace, justice and the equality of the people is exactly what America needs right now and there is no doubt about Kamala Harris’ ability to do so.
Harris emphasised this ambition in a statement: “I have the unique experience of having been a leader in local government, state government and federal government. The American public wants a fighter… and I’m prepared to do that”.
