Kate Winslet wants Leo to win the Oscar, just like the rest of us. Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for an Academy Award five times and has delivered some masterful performances, but has yet to be recognised for his tremendous talent.
Two years ago, when Leo was up for an Oscar for The Wolf of Wall Street, I remember holding my breath as Jennifer Lawrence announced the winner for Best Actor. The Oscar as well all know went to Matthew McConaughey who totally deserved it and went on to deliver an utterly compelling speech. But this year feels different, there is something in the air and I think most people will agree.
DiCaprio is nominated for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in the visually spellbinding The Revenant. People have been praising his performance for a while now, and the atmosphere is buzzing. Chatting with BBC News at the London Critics Circle Film Awards, Winslet confirmed that she will be rooting for him.
“I think you can sort of feel it, and I think that everyone wants it for him, it would be amazing”. While she did say that she is team Leo, she did reveal that she does feel slightly torn. Her Steve Jobs co-star Michael Fassbender is also hoping for a Best Actor win.
“It’s slightly difficult for me too, because Michael Fassbender has been nominated, and I was his right-hand woman for three months while we were making Steve Jobs and I saw how hard he worked,” she admitted. “I think his performance is so extraordinary but I think yeah, you can sort of feel the temperature. It’s probably going to be Leo’s year”.
