Kim Kardashian And Others Freeze Their Social Media Accounts In Protest Of Hate Speech | Politics

Kim Kardashian West and more international celebrities are freezing their Facebook and Instagram accounts for 24 hours to protest against hate speech.

Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Sacha Baron Cohen and Leonardo DiCaprio – to name just a few, are part of the #StopHateForProfit campaign.

Especially for the KUWTK star Kim, who has over 188 million Instagram followers and over 30 million on Facebook, it’s a big thing to shut down the platforms where she usually interacts with her community. But the famous reality TV star didn’t want to stay silent about the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation Social Media promotes.

In her opinion, hate speech sows division and splits America apart. Furthermore she blames the social giants for still allowing this behaviour on their platforms even though “people are killed”.

Probably this is a nod to the failure of removing a militia group that had urged followers to engage in violence amid the unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin following the shooting of a Black man last month.

The case is still on debate even though Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has admitted that the platform made “an operational mistake” in refusing to remove the Kenosha Guard group on the site after users had reported it for violations.

Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact on our elections and undermines our democracy”, Kim says about her motivation behind the campaign. She also urged her fans to join the protest and put a link to the Stop Hate For Profit coalition’s website in her posts.
