Lazy Sunsets, the musical brainchild of songwriter Pete Stephenson, has unveiled its 6th release, “I Wish You Stayed,” navigating through an emotional landscape encapsulated within a retro rock ambiance.
A melodic conversation between melancholy and kinetic energy, the track extends an inviting hand towards a journey through the varying emotional states experienced at the terminal of a relationship, exploring everything from initial apathy to eventual remorse.
Originating as a piano ballad and metamorphosing into a contemporary rock sound, “I Wish You Stayed” offers an interplay between uniqueness and familiarity. Pete’s intentionality shines through as he sought to craft a song that not only recreated a genuine live music experience but also proffered an episodic auditory experience.

The inception of Lazy Sunsets is as melodious and unexpected as the tracks it produces. Stemming from a fortuitous encounter between Pete of the Gold Coast, Australia, and Kara Greskovic from Tennessee, USA, on a music site, the project evolved from discussions about Pete’s musical creations on his quarter-century-old piano.
Despite the genre variations that Lazy Sunsets has traversed—from piano ballads and country to dance, pop, and rock—the distinctive core of melodic vocals, sticky choruses, and a dash of nostalgia has been faithfully maintained.
Pete, while steering Lazy Sunsets as a primarily solo project, has granted it the liberty to explore varied musical directions and sounds. The collaborations introduce fresh dynamics into each song, while a consistent group of musicians provides a stable, recognisable auditory through-line across tracks.
The project’s future looks melodically bright, with the rock ballad “I Wish You Stayed” now accessible on streaming platforms and another song, “You Possibly,” under production.
Lazy Sunsets does not plan to set below the horizon anytime soon, as Pete’s reservoir of songs for future writing appears to be plentiful, promising listeners more evocative journeys through sound and emotion in the times ahead.
