Leeds Band The Kites Unveil New Single ‘Drunk In Japan’

The Kites, an up-and-coming band from Leeds, have just released their electrifying new single titled “Drunk In Japan“. This latest offering serves as a promising teaser for the band’s upcoming self-released EP, set to be unveiled later this year.

The track showcases the youthful exuberance and raw talent of The Kites. With ringing endorsements from BBC Introducing York/North Yorkshire describing them as a must-experience act, and Amazing Radio remarking that their music stirs the impulse to “throw an impromptu house party“, it’s evident that this British guitar band is rapidly gaining traction.

The Kites have their roots in the Yorkshire Wharfedale towns of Otley and Ilkley. The formation of the band reads like a script of serendipity. Brothers Joe and Ollie Staniforth stumbled upon Jake, a budding guitarist, during their school days.

The lineup found its final piece in Elodie, whom they encountered at a songwriting workshop. With all members now pursuing studies in Leeds, the band has been honing its vibrant indie pop sound, characterized by infectious guitars and relatable lyrics that resonate with their generation.

In a short span, The Kites have managed to amass a committed fan base. Their recent gig on the DORK stage at “Live At Leeds In the Park” solidified their emerging reputation. Further fuelling excitement is their soon-to-be headlining show at The Wardrobe in Leeds, which is anticipated to draw a packed crowd.

The band consists of Joseph Staniforth (Singer/Guitar, 19), Jake McBrinn (Guitar, 19), Elodie Parsons (Bass, 17), and Oliver Staniforth (Drums, 17). Their shared experiences, from school Battle-of-the-Band nights to open-mic sessions, have sculpted their distinctive sound.

Drawing inspiration from diverse acts like Twenty-One Pilots, Wunderhorse, and even the iconic Stevie Wonder, The Kites have managed to craft music that’s poised for radio play and large-scale events. Their debut EP “Postcode” and tracks like “Living Room” demonstrate their knack for producing memorable guitar anthems.

For fans and newcomers alike, witnessing The Kites live is a celebration of the pure, unadulterated joy that comes from being in a band. With their collective talent, ambition, and dedication, it’s clear that The Kites are set to soar even higher in the music industry.
