Fashion brands, whether they have already been here for decades or are just a few years old, have to find the best artists and creators out there. As soon as a new talent is rising, all the fashion brands wants these freshest of minds, with young talents like Olivier Rousteing and Virgil Abloh now becoming recognizable for their own style and working for big fashion houses.
The House of (Azzedine) Alaïa aka Maison Alaïa is the latest to land a young creative into their ranks. Following the death of their founder Azzedine Alaïa in November 2017, has finally found the perfect creative director to continue Azzedine’s legacy. The new creative director is the long time right-hand of Raf Simons, Pieter Mulier.
The Belgian designer’s role at the fashion brand is effective immediately, and his first collection will be for the Spring-Summer 2022 collection. We will have to wait a bit to see how the creative director is going to put his own ideas and style onto the fashion brand.
He has been next to Raf Simons since the start of his career, with Raf being the first one to give Pieter an internship and a chance to excel in the fashion industry. In 2017, Pieter got to become the global creative director for Calvin Klein with his long-time creative companion Raf again at his side.
Alaïa CEO Myriam Serrano is reportedly happy to have a new creative director, she likes Pieter’s style and creativity, and this is an all-new episode for the fashion brand, which will have to mix between the original Alaïa style and Pieter’s visions.
Pieter has been discrete in the fashion industry, even though he has had a star moment when he featured in the 2014 documentary Dior and I as Raf’s right hand man. He has always beem respected for his creativity, and this new role will bring a fresh new start for both Pieter and ‘Maison Alaïa’.
