Will Smith To Star In Action-Thriller ‘Fast & Loose’ From ‘Deadpool 2’ Director | Film News

Will Smith has signed on to star in Fast & Loose, an action-thriller written by Jon and Erich Hoeber (The Meg) and to be directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2).

The movie will find Smith waking up in Tijuana with no memory after being mysteriously attacked and left for dead, only to discover that he’s been living two different lives; one as a rich and successful crime boss, the other as a broke and lonely CIA agent. But he doesn’t know which lifestyle represents his true identity, and he’s not sure which one he wants to continue living, either.

This project was actually originally announced back in April 2020, with STXfilms developing it and Leitch only on board as a producer. But once he made the decision to direct, Smith jumped on to star, and suddenly the film has a much higher profile than originally anticipated. The decision was then made to shop it to streamers and studios.

Reportedly, the usual streaming suspects are circling the project, as are Sony, Warner Bros., MGM and Paramount. With that kind of competition, expect the film to eventually sell for a hefty price tag.

Smith has done a lot of franchise work and a somewhat disappointing slate of films in recent years, so it would be great to see him excel in an original, movie star driven actioner like this.

If anyone can help him pull that off, it’s Leach, who’s already successfully worked with stars such as Keanu Reeves in John Wick, Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde, and Dwayne Johnson in Hobbs & Shaw. He is also currently directing Brad Pitt in another original thriller, Bullet Train.

Smith does have an interesting slate of projects lined up. He will  star in Antoine Fuqua‘s thriller Emancipation, which is being developed at Apple, and he’ll play Venus and Serena Williams‘ father in King Richard. It’s not all original films though, as he’ll also star alongside Kevin Hart in the Planes, Trains & Automobiles remake.
