Earlier this week it was announced that Christopher Bailey would step aside from his current position as Chief Executive of Burberry amid criticism from investors after a flagging retail performance.

It has now been revealed that Marco Gobbetti, Chief Executive and Chairman of French luxury brand Céline, will take on the top job at Burberry. Gobbetti took over at Céline in 2008 and was key to their revamp, helped by the Creative Director, Phoebe Philo.

Under Gobbetti, who has previously worked for Givenchy and Moschino, Céline moved from strength to strength, with their clean and sophisticated product lines proving popular with customers.

Outgoing CEO Christopher Bailey commented: “On a personal level, I know that we are going to enjoy a wonderfully collaborative partnership that makes me very excited for our future at Burberry”.
