Martine Rose Unveils New Football-Inspired Collection With Nike

Renowned designer, Martine Rose, has captured the zeitgeist with her recent football-inspired clothing collection, created in partnership with Nike. This collection, featuring the celebrated Nike Shox MR4, puts a spotlight on women in sport.

It features prominent athletes in its promotional campaign, including the esteemed captain of the England Women’s national team, Leah Williamson.

Speaking of her intention, Rose expressed, “I aim to empower women through my designs. A woman in a suit symbolises strength, resilience, and beauty. My goal was to design something authentic, instilling confidence and respect in the players.”

The collection includes a creatively designed trench jacket with additional sleeves at the shoulders, which can be worn open or wrapped akin to a football scarf. The Nike Shox MR4 showcases a unique blend of a formal shoe and a traditional football boot, offering a unisex design with a slight elevated heel.

Also included in the line-up are dress shirts adorned with Martine Rose branding and a football crest on the left chest. A standout piece is the double-breasted, Italian-made tailored suit constructed entirely from wool. The collection is rounded off with trendy accessories, including colourful stockings and sleek shield sunglasses.

The collection has garnered support from female audiences, notably Women’s Super League club Arsenal players, and even secured a partnership with the United States Women’s National Team in anticipation of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Despite this, Martine Rose emphasises the genderless nature of her designs: “The suit transcends gender boundaries. I hope we reach a point where discussions in sport focus on the game rather than gender.” Given that a large portion of the collection has already been sold, it appears her progressive approach has resonated with consumers.
