The television phenomenon that is Game Of Thrones has attracted many musical guests. The National and Sigur Ros have both recorded their versions of the ominous “The Rains of Castamere” and members of Coldplay, Snow Patrol and Sigur Ros have taken on-screen roles. Now, Mastodon can be added to that list. On the latest episode of Game of Thrones (Series 5, Episode 8), the sludge metal giants made a cameo appearance as Wildlings in a battle against White Walkers as they are brutally killed – only to be resurrected later on. Mastodon’s latest record, Once More ‘Round the Sun was released to wide acclaim in 2014.
