When Matt Damon confirmed his return to the highly popular franchise a little over a year ago, the world rejoiced. Jason Bourne was back and ready for some action. Damon is now halfway through filming the fifth instalment, and in a recent interview with Variety he teased a few production updates and talked a little bit about why he decided to reprise the role as one of the world’s most skilled (and beloved) assassins.
“I wasn’t sure,” Damon said when asked if he had felt done with the franchise after Bourne Ultimatum. “I hoped I wasn’t because I really liked the franchise and the character but I didn’t see a way to go. But I wasn’t giving up on the idea of doing it. Paul and I kind of talked years ago about perhaps the way forward was just to let time pass and allow the world to change a little”.
Damon went on to talk about the upcoming film, and what one can expect. Revealing that the new film will pick up 12 years after Jason Bourne went of the grid in 2004. “So what’s happened in those intervening years gives you a story”. He also revealed a few exciting key moments in the film, and exotic filming locations. “We were in Tenerife, which is supposed to be Athens. It would be like a nighttime riot scene to kind of start the movie. And then England, Berlin a little bit for about a week, and a little bit in D.C.” He revealed. Then we’re going to Vegas for the third act”. He continued. “Big car chase on the strip”. Sounds intense and extremely exciting!
The fifth Bourne film will speed into cinemas on July 28, 2016. Julia Stiles (reprising her role as Nicky Parsons), Swedish newcomer (and major talent) Alicia Vikander, and movie veteran Tommy Lee Jones will all tag along for the ride.
