Matthew Weiner has traded Madison Avenue for Litchfield Prison. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weiner has been hired to direct an upcoming episode for the show’s fourth season. Weiner and OITNB creator Jenji Kohan are longtime friends and this is the first major project Weiner has directed that he has not written. The episode will add to his credits that already include nine episodes of Mad Men and the 2014 film Are You Here that starred Amy Poehler and Owen Wilson.

Netflix being their secretive selves declined to release any details, but lucky for us Laura Prepon (who previously revealed that she might be returning for season 4) offered us some inside information; “We filmed a huge day on Sunday, and a lot of directors might have been overwhelmed by that, but he wasn’t and he knew exactly what he wanted to do. With a huge cast like ours, when you have a director who knows exactly what they want, it makes everything go a lot smoother. I love Matt — he’s awesome”.

So this must mean that Prepon will be back? It seems that we can at least expect more than a brief appearance from her in the upcoming season. Orange is the New Black has not yet received a 2016 premiere date but it will be interesting to see what Weiner brings to the table. Stay tuned.
