Michael Waldron To Pen ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

Michael Waldron, who has already written recent MCU installments such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Disney+ series Loki, has secured another high profile Marvel gig. And it’s a big one. Waldron will write the screenplay for Avengers: Secret Wars, one of two upcoming Avengers movies in development at Marvel.

Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty) has already been hired to write Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is the movie that will arrive first in 2025. Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) will direct Kang Dynasty, but Secret Wars will have its own director.

Unlike the last two Avengers movies, Infinity War and Endgame, which were deeply connected and written/directed by the same people, Marvel have this time decided to go with separate writers/directors for each, though it’s assumed that all parties will be in touch during development.

Insiders told Deadline that meetings about the movies took place last month with a number of writers, but Waldron was always the frontrunner thanks to the studio’s trust in him because of his previous work for them.

Plus, he’s also reportedly attached to develop and write MCU boss Kevin Feige‘s secret Star Wars film he’s developing for Lucasfilm and Disney. So it’s safe to say Waldron is very much in Marvel’s good books.

Unsurprisingly, plot details are completely under wraps for both Avengers movies. Both The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars were a part of a huge unveiling of the MCU’s future phases back at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con. We may learn more in due time, though Marvel have been notoriously good at keeping key details hidden to avoid early spoilers.
