On Tuesday, March 23, many celebrities including Michelle Obama, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, DJ Khaled, Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds shared an open letter to urge Americans to join the fight to support the ‘For The People Act’.

In order to join this fight, the open letter calls people to call, email, but also tweet at their Senator about the ‘For the People Act’

This letter has come about because across the United States currently, 43 states are considering more than 250 proposals that could dramatically reduce the voting right and access for millions of Americans, with the ‘Fort The People Act’ aiming to stop this. The When We All Vote team has described the Act as the “most critical Civil Right legislation since the Civil Rights movement”.

The ‘For The People Act’ is a bill in the US that was introduce on January 4. The bill is meant to expand voting rights for people but also to change the campaign finance laws – in order to reduce the influence of money in politics – and to create new ethics rules for federal office-holders.

The open letter contains over 60 notable voices made up of the different When We All Vote co-chairs, ambassadors and supporters but also countless of other celebrities such as Leonardo Di Caprio, Bobby Berk, FINNEAS, The Roots, Eva Longoria, Stephen Curry, Martin Lawrence, Fat Joe, Jennifer Lopez and more.

The initiative of this open letter was taken by the organization named When We All Vote with Michelle Obama as co-chair and Valerie Jarrett as Chairman of the Board. It was founded in 2018 in order to change the culture around voting and to increase participation in elections by reducing the race and age gap.
