Fifteen years ago, the first episode of the teenage sitcom Hannah Montana aired on Disney Channel, and to mark the occasion, Miley Cyrus, who played the young starlet, wrote a long letter to her alter ego, which she published on her Instagram account, with the caption “Dear Hannah Montana, I still love you 15 years later. #HMForever”.
15 years since the actress first donned her mythical blonde wig, allowing her to live “the best of both worlds“, her letter starts with “Hi Hannah, it’s been a while”, and then goes on to say, “Although you are considered to be an ‘alter ego’ in reality there was a time in my life when you held more of my identity in your glovette than I did in my bare hands”.
In this long letter, the actress shows her gratitude for having played the role but also debriefs on all the events they shared together and the progress she made since that famous day in 2006.
“You and I have been through it all together my friend,” Cyrus added. “We’ve shared many firsts. A lot of lasts. Ups. Downs. Tears + Laughs. I lost my pappy, my Dad’s father while on set filming an early episode of season 1”.
It was a very moving and powerful letter from the “Plastic Hearts” singer on this very important day for her, the day that launched her career, check out the full letter below.
