Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its upcoming political thriller, The Last Thing He Wanted. The film debuts at the Sundance Film Festival next week and boasts an impressive host of names connected to the project.
First, the film is an adaptation of Joan Didion‘s novel. That should be enough to sell any film. But on top of that, it’s Dee Rees‘ follow up to her Oscar-nominated drama, Mudbound. And it stars Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Willem Dafoe, and Rosie Perez. What more do you want?
The film revolves around a single mother and hardened journalist investigating Contra activity in Central America where she faces frustrations over censorship and struggles with her ailing father – who turns out to be a key player in the story she’s trying to break.
With that many great names involved in the film it’s no surprise that the trailer is a solid one, promising a twisty thriller invested in diving deep into political rabbit holes. For those that can’t catch the Sundance premiere, fear not, you won’t have to wait long. The Last Thing He Wanted hits Netflix Friday, February 21.
