After last month’s rumours that the Prometheus sequel was holding up development of Neil Bomkamp‘s Alien 5, Ridley Scott has announced that the sequel to the sort-of-prequel will be his next film.
During an interview with British magazine, Empire, about his latest film, The Martian, Scott let slip that he would be swiftly moving on with the development of Prometheus 2. Read the full quote below:
“They faced another challenge when the film’s release date was brought forward. But according to Damon, the typically fast-working Scott didn’t worry. ‘Ridley was done with the movie about two weeks after we shot’, he smiles. ‘I was already on to my next movie’, adds Scott. ‘I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2’“. Damon here referring to Matt Damon, star of The Martian.
Although fans have been critical of Prometheus, often citing the numerous deflections from much anticipated questions, the film still continues to excite our collective curiosity. With a plethora of rumours surrounding the franchise, from a possible crossover with Blomkamp‘s film, to vague hints from Scott himself about terrifying new monsters, it seems we still care about the legacy of one of sci-fi cinema’s greatest achievements.
The Martian starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, and Kristen Wiig will hit UK cinemas on November 15.
