British-Japanese pop superstar Rina Sawayama is set to make her film debut and will star alongside Keanu Reeves in the fourth instalment of the John Wick franchise. Her role in John Wick: Chapter 4 has not yet been revealed.
“I’m so glad to have Rina on board to make her feature film debut in John Wick: Chapter 4”, the director Chad Stahelski said. “She’s an incredible talent who’ll bring so much to the film,” he added.
Born in Japan and raised in England, the singer first made a name for herself in the fashion world before signing a recording contract. Her singles “XS”, “Comme des Garçons” and “Chosen Family” – a duet with none other than Sir Elton John – made her a household name. Last year, Rina released her very critically acclaimed debut album SAWAYAMA.
It also seems that actor Ian McShane will be in the film, as he said during an interview, “Keanu [Reeves] and I exchanged New Year’s greetings and said, ‘Hope to see you this year’. I know the script is being written and they’re hoping to do it this year”.
The fourth part of the film will start shooting this summer in France, Germany and Japan. Directed by Stahelski, the film’s script will be written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Stahelski are producing, while Reeves and Louise Rosner are executives producing.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is scheduled for release in May 2022.
