Rose Byrne To Join Steve Carell In Jon Stewart’s ‘Irresistible’ | Film News

Per Collider, Rose Byrne is in talks to join Steve Carell in Jon Stewart‘s upcoming political satire, Irresistible. The film reportedly follows a slick Democratic strategist who helps a retired veteran run for Mayor in a small, right-wing town in Wisconsin – a swing state.

Byrne is reportedly nearing a deal to play Carell’s cutthroat Republican counterpart who campaigns on behalf of the local Mayor.

Financing for the project was still being worked out back in October when Carell was cast, but now the film is expected to land at Focus Features, and production could begin as early as this spring. Stewart wrote the screenplay himself and will also produce, alongside Brad Pitt‘s Plan B Entertainment.

Carell and Stewart previously worked together on The Daily Show, and the duo have reportedly been eager to reunite. Stewart left his hosting gig back in 2014 to embark on a filmmaking career, which began with the drama Rosewater, which starred Gael Garcia Bernal.

Stewart helming a film revolving around the machinations of politics is essentially what fans of his have been waiting for ever since he stepped into the filmmaking game. Having Carell and Byrne on board is just the cherry on top. It will be fascinating to see the final version of Irresistible, especially in the current political climate.
