Sarah Adina Smith To Helm Ballet Drama ‘Birds Of Paradise’ At Amazon | Film News

Anonymous Content has teamed with Amazon studios to produce and develop a ballet drama titled Birds Of Paradise. Sarah Adina Smith (Buster’s Mal Heart) will direct.

She has previously worked with Amazon on the TV adaptation of Hanna. Smith has adapted the screenplay herself from the A.K. Small novel, Bright Burning Stars.

The story revolves around two dancers at an elite Parisian ballet academy who connect in a time of stress and tragedy. After joining the ranks of the dance academy and competing for a contract to join the company of the Opéra national de Paris, the duo find their bond and bodies tested in the race for the top spot.

Kristine Froseth (Looking For Alaska) and Diana Silvers (Booksmart) will star.

Julie Rapaport, film co-head at Amazon Studios, said of the project: “Sarah is a talented, visionary filmmaker who we’re so happy is part of the Amazon family, and we can’t wait to bring her next story to life with Birds Of Paradise.

Smith herself added: “I wrote these roles specifically for Kristine Froseth and Diana Silvers, who I believe are going to take the world by storm. I’m honoured to take this journey with them and so thrilled to be partnering with Amazon Studios once again in pursuit of bold, unapologetic filmmaking”.

Smith’s Buster’s Mal Heart is a strange, paranoid mystery that stars Rami Malek, and her prior film is the underseen but beguiling The Midnight Swim, which follows three half-sisters after their mother passes away. Hopefully this is another fascinating, moody experience from her.
