It is now known that Sony Pictures Animation is currently working on a new movie about a superstar female K-Pop group, who fight against evil spirits in between their gigs.
Entitled K-Pop: Demon Hunters, the animation is to be directed by Maggie Kang and Christ Appelhans, who will be joined by Oscar-winning Shrek producer Aron Warner. Meanwhile, Hannah McMechan and Danya Jimenez will be in charge of writing the script.
The upcoming musical can be described as an action adventure with a generous touch of fashion, food, style and, of course, music. The plot of the movie follows a girl group balancing their lives on the stage while hiding their secret identities as demon hunters.
Maggie Kang, whose name is behind such projects as The Lego Ninjago Movie is leading the project as an homage to her Korean pride and extremely popular K-Pop music.
Kang commented on the work, saying, “Having been a fan of the genre since its beginnings in the ’90s, this film is my love letter to K-Pop and my Korean roots. It encompasses and celebrates everything K-Pop is – it’s the film I would want to see as a lifelong fan and I hope the millions of K-Pop fans out there in the world will feel the same“.
Moreover, the artistic leadership for K-Pop: Demon Hunters will also include production designer Mingjue Helen Chen and art director Ami Thompson, who worked on the latest Disney sensation Raya And The Last Dragon.
The release date is unknown yet but it is expected to be a great animated musical!
