After the epic series Game Of Thrones, the Queen Of The North Sophie Turner will return to our screens in the drama miniseries titled The Staircase for HBO.
It is a miniseries adaptation of the French documentary Soupçons directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, which follows the high-profile case of writer Michael Peterson. In 2001, Peterson was convicted of killing his wife, although he claimed his innocence from the start, saying that his wife had accidentally fallen down the stairs.
According to Variety, Sophie Turner will play Margaret Ratliff, one of Michael Peterson’s adopted daughters who is convinced of his innocence. This is a promising return to the television stage after her acclaimed performance in the X-Men Dark Phoenix film.
Prior to this planned HBO adaptation, Netflix rushed to produce this hypnotic documentary on its platform in 2018.
The new version commissioned by HBO Max will be a scripted story told through eight episodes. Antonio Campos will direct, while the script will be written by Maggie Cohn (American Crime Story).
Sophie Turner will play alongside a five-star casting composed of Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Parker Posey, Rosemarie DeWitt, and French actress Juliette Binoche. All these names promise a very successful series.
