South African Rap Artist Phundo Art Unveils New Single ‘Coldplay’

South African rapper, Phundo Art, has unveiled his inaugural single “Coldplay” in anticipation of his upcoming project, Red Baby. The single, which debuted on 11th August, is reminiscent of the iconic 2000’s sound, paying homage to celebrated artists Chad Hugo and Pharell.

Describing the motivation behind “Coldplay”, Phundo Art shares, “I wanted to create a buzz and introduce my audience to my favorite tracks ahead of the project’s full release. This particular track captures a lively and energetic essence.” The full project, Red Baby, is set to launch later this year.

The song showcases not just Phundo’s rap skills but also his ability to infuse nostalgia with a modern twist. Collaborating with producer Mattu, “Coldplay” also features verses from northern-based rappers Raider and Quade Poundsign, enriching the track’s texture.

His performances have graced stages across London and other parts of England, including esteemed festivals like Reading and Leeds, Made Festival, and Vale Festival. A dedicated and growing online fanbase has propelled him to perform in places as far-flung as Holland.

Phundo Art’s collaborations also include notable names in the industry like UK Rapper Eyez, Blxckie, and French Producer DJ Lewis. His work has earned recognition from industry tastemakers, with airplay on premier platforms such as BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1 Xtra, and Kiss FM, among others.
