Steven Soderbergh’s iPhone-Shot Horror Movie Gets 2018 Release Date | Film News

Director Steven Soderbergh has made a career out of dipping between genres and making big studio films and small independent ones, but his latest film is set to be the smallest of the lot. The ultra-mysterious horror film that was reportedly shot on an iPhone in a little over a week is titled Unsane, and Soderbergh has kept practically everything close to his chest.

But it seems we won’t have to wait too long to find out what he’s been working on, as Unsane has now got a release date of March 23, 2018, and will reportedly get a wide release. All we know currently is that the film will star Juno Temple, Claire Foy and Amy Irving, and SNL vet Jay Pharoah has described the film as “reality-type horror — almost Get Out-ish, but different”. Intriguing.

Despite Soderbergh’s track record of playing with genre, he’s never dabbled in horror before. Not only will it be interesting to see how he works in the genre, but even more fascinating will be how a well-known, talented director can work his magic on just an iPhone.

Unsane looks set to be kept very close to the chest even up until its release date, which is usually the best tactic for a horror film already generating excitement from fans. We’ve seen what hype can do to the box office returns of films like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, so come March, we can see what all the hype is about.
