Steven Yeun Joins Robert Pattinson In Bong Joon Ho’s Upcoming Sci-Fi Thriller

Bong Joon Ho‘s incredibly anticipated Parasite follow up has added another critical darling to its cast.

Having already secured the services of Robert Pattinson, the untitled sci-fi thriller has cast Steven Yeun (Minari) in one of the key roles. Yeun and Bong previously worked together on the director’s 2017 Netflix movie, Okja.

The film – which is being produced at Warner Bros. – currently lacks a title or many details, but we do know that it will be based on Edward Ashton‘s novel Mickey7, which has been described as The Martian meets Dark Matter.

The book follows a man who’s an ‘expendable’ — a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim — who refuses to let his replacement clone, dubbed Mickey8, take his place. It’s currently unclear how closely Bong – who is also writing the screenplay – plans to stick to the source material, but what an exciting premise.

Yeun is joining a stacked cast that already includes the aforementioned Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, and Naomi Ackie. It’s no surprise that Bong essentially has his pick of great actors from around the world after Parasite was universally beloved and become the first non-English language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

Yeun is having a great year, as he will also be seen in Jordan Peele‘s Nope when it arrives in two weeks on Friday, July 22. He will also soon be seen in Netflix comedy film Beef opposite Ali Wong.
