Tomi Tribe Is Trying To Bring The Afrobeats Movement To LA

Tomi Tribe, a Nigerian-American entrepreneur and musician, is heavily invested in bringing Afrobeats to many LA neighbourhoods. Born and raised in Riverside, California, and currently residing in DTLA, Tomi has been holding weekly parties and paving the way for Afrobeats in the city of angels. However, there were barriers and roadblocks in the way.

“Being a first  generation Nigerian in America, it was hard to not walk in the traditional African path of doctor, lawyer, dentist etc. Lack of support from the community/family made things difficult but also  motivational” says the vibes curator.

Through his brand, Triibe Viibes, they have grown to be the most significant Afrobeats events company in Los Angeles, attracting recognition on a global scale as the venue for Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, DJ Tunez, ECOOL, and other artists’ official concert afterparties. They also launched the first weekly Afrobeats party in LA history via Afrobeats Hollywood at Station 1640.

The forward-thinking musician is also getting ready to release his debut EP in November and is working on another EP that will mostly embody his sound and feel. A few songs with well-known Nigerian artists, including Peruzzi, will be included in the project, which will also incorporate the explosive Nigerian Alt sounds of PrettyBoyDO.

Additionally, he claims he wants to get it out before a month-long trip to Africa, which is known to be at its busiest in December due to the holiday-summer atmosphere of the month and the fact that concerts, festivals, and musicians describe it as a busy time for work and networking.

Tomi says he is Iinspired by pioneers like Fela Kuti, Diddy, Ye, Wizkid, and Gucci Mane, to name a few. All of the aforementioned names have something in common – they are all able to market their music, brands, and other artists. Tomi and his desire to promote African music to a larger audience share this characteristic.

“My career goals right now are creating as many superstars from Africa as possible,” he says. “There are so many talented artists in Africa that don’t have the proper guidance and outlets. Africa is the future”
