Toronto Based Afrobop Artist Aiza Returns With New Track ‘Alright’

Toronto-based, Montreal-born Afrobop sensation Aiza has released a new single titled “Alright.” This song is a heartfelt, optimistic anthem that serves as a deeply positive assurance to Aiza herself that, in her words, “no matter the hurdles and the crazy detours, I will always end up exactly where I need to be.”

The song “Alright” is marked by its confident and understated composition. Set against a backdrop of subtle bass grooves and rhythms, the track blossoms into a highly melodic chorus that is both uplifting and catchy.

In the bridge, Aiza makes a touching homage to her Montreal roots, integrating the French phrase “Tout est beau, tout est bien bien,” which translates to “Everything is beautiful, everything is very good.”

“Alright” was co-written by Aiza, Chris LaRocca, and Herag Sanbalian early in 2020, just two months before the pandemic emerged. Reflecting on the songwriting session, Aiza recalls telling her co-writers, “I want to write about how I want to feel. Let’s manifest some good [vibes] this year!

As it turns out, this sentiment was more prescient than they could have known at the time. “The lyrics poured out of me and we left the session feeling energized and excited,” she states, describing the track as a message from her future self and one of her favourite songs on her upcoming album, Sovereignty.

Aiza is not a newcomer to the music scene; she has been making waves as a charismatic performer and artist, often likened to powerful female figures in music such as Lizzo and Janelle Monáe.

Known for her dynamic and explosive live performances, Aiza has become a regular presence not only on Canadian stages but also on screen. She has secured acting roles in Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy, CBC’s Workin’ Moms, and the JUNO-nominated animated series Jeremy & Jazzy.

Her music, noted for its uplifting and playful lyrics, has also found its way into various TV shows, including Tuca & Bertie, Selling Tampa, and Kim’s Convenience. In 2022, Aiza produced, wrote, directed, and co-hosted the series Real Blackity Talk for CBC Gem, along with her sister Kamana.

This series, which celebrates the perspectives and experiences of Black women and non-binary Black people in Canada, won ‘Series of The Year’ at the 7th annual Dynasty Gala and received a nomination at the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards for ‘Best Host, Web Program or Series.’

While 2023 is still unfolding, Aiza kicked off the year with the release of her single “Cocoa Butter,” a vibrant blend of Afro-Pop and R&B that’s as empowering as it is catchy.

With her new single “Alright,” Aiza further cements her status as an artist deeply engaged with both her music and her message, capturing her resilience, optimism, and commitment to positivity—even when faced with life’s inevitable challenges.

This new single, part of her upcoming album Sovereignty, will surely continue to introduce Aiza’s authentic and encouraging voice to an even wider audience, as many eagerly anticipate what she will create and share next.
