The first trailer for Marvel and Netflix’s Jessica Jones is here, and it’s full of brooding promise. Set in Hell’s Kitchen, the home of the companies’ previous collaboration Daredevil, the series focuses on super-powered private eye, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), as an enemy from her past spreads violent chaos throughout the city. The trailer gives us our first look at villain Kilgrave (David Tennant) and his power-set, which involves an insidious form of mind control.
The preview also introduces Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage, who seems to have a tense, smouldering relationship with our anti-hero, and will shortly be taking up the mantle of his own show. The series is helmed by Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter, Twilight) and also stars Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Ann Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Rosario Dawson.
For those who have read Brian Michael Bendis‘ fantastically dark comic-series the show is drawn from, Alias, it seems the studio has made some strong casting choices. Ritter is perfect as the bent-out-of-shape hero, Jessica; tortured and frantic, lashing out indiscriminately. Colter also holds weight as the stoically confidant Luke Cage.
As for Tennant’s Kilgrave, we will have to see what the series brings; however the magnitude of his powers seem truly horrifying. How will Ms. Jones confront such indomitable strength? We’ll find out shortly, in what will no doubt be one long binge-watch.
All episodes of Jessica Jones will be available on Netflix from November 20. Check out the trailer below:
