Will There Be A Second Season Of ‘Big Little Lies’? | TV News

Crime drama series Big Little Lies may have unveiled the killer and victim at their big finale last night (April 2), but the closing shot of the show’s protagonists shown through a set of binoculars has fans questioning whether or not a second season could be on the horizon.

Nicole Kidman, who played one of the lead roles (Celeste Wright) has already voiced her interest in continuing the series: “We don’t have any plans for a season 2 but the beauty of this is there are so many deep stories here that are ripe for mining. There are so many different ways to go with all of these women,” she shared with Entertainment Weekly earlier today.

Meanwhile, director Jean-Marc Vallee told The Hollywood Reporter that the ambiguous, fill-in-the-blank ending should be left to the viewers’ imaginations. “To do a season two, I’m not for it,” he admitted. “Let’s move on and do something else! If there’s an opportunity to reunite with Reese, Nicole and these characters of course, I’ll be a part of it, but ‘Big Little Lies’ is a one-time deal”.

And technically, he’s right. The show had been announced and produced as a limited series, which means it was only intended to run for a single season. Chances for a second seem dim if you also consider that the novel the show is based off of ends in a similar fashion to the season finale.

HBO have not yet commented on a second season.
