A Tribe Called Quest followed up their recent album release with a first ever performance on SNL over the weekend. Performing one of the more politically charged songs on the album, “We The People….”, they were also able to pay tribute to the late Phife Dawg, including a banner with his face on it unfurling from the sky to accompany his verse.

Speaking about the album to Beats 1 Radio Q-Tip said the following:
“We’re just lovely musicians and artists and that’s all we do, is speak and paint pictures and try to speak to a climate but hopefully we will call some sort of uprising internally in that young Jimmy Carter and that young Angela Davis. Hopefully we will, ‘cause that’s the type of thing we do. And that’s why ‘We The People’ is more of an encompassing and not just us—it’s all of us as people”.

They also performed “The Space Program”, assisted by Busta Rhymes and frequent collaborator, Consequence, of which there should be a video in the next few days.
