Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry Responds To Misogynistic Comments On 4chan | Music News

Following the release of Chvrches’ new music video for “Leave A Trace”, vocalist Lauren Mayberry was directed to a thread on 4chan, full of insulting and sexual comments about the video. Words such as ‘slut’ and ‘whore’ plus an array of explicit critique were wielded by the site’s users. Her response on Twitter was: “Dear anyone who thinks misogyny isn’t real. It is and this is what it looks like“, before linking to the thread in question.

Mayberry has publicly shared and commented on sexist comments more than once and in 2013, she wrote a stern but inspiring Guardian article titled ‘I will not accept online misogyny’. There will probably always be people who get their thrills from putting others down, but along with them, will emerge people like Mayberry who will be ready to take a stand.
