David Bowie – Blackstar | New Music
David Bowie has released a new single from his upcoming album Blackstar, the album is set to be out on David Bowie 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. Bowie also has revealed a short film to complement the 10 minute single. The single is also entitled “Blackstar” that was premiered on Sky Atlantic before the second episode of The Last Panthers on November 19.
Bowie abandons the straightforward rock from The Next Day his last album and takes us onto journey, ambient beginning with synthesisers and intermittent drum pattern integrated with jazzy saxophone arrangement and flutes that eventually come to a halt, then into a delightful melody and Bowie producing beautiful vocal performance, accompanying the enigmatic lyrics “Something happened on the day he died, Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside, Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried“.
The song continues with the jazz influence and avant-garde ideas, there is a lot happening on this track but it is not jumbled. To add to all this you have the eerie and mysterious short film to watch. You can listen to the single and watch the short film down below:
