Conversations About Her

Jamie XX – Gosh | Music Video

It has been a crazy year for Jamie xx: the mastermind behind the xx released his debut album, In Colour, which has been met with an overwhelming critical acclaim, as well as touring the world with a series of sold-out shows.

Now the London-based producer teamed up with the award-winning French director, Romain Gavras, for the opening track of Jamie’s project: “Gosh” is a claustrophobic post-dubstep number, and the video accompanying it perfectly echoes its atmospheres.

The clip reprises the main themes explored by Gavras’ previous work, such as minorities, in this case, albinos (“Born Free”, “Bad Girls”); youth uprisings (“No Church In The Wild”); and French urban decay (“Stress”). The result is nothing less than spectacular, and we have no doubts that this mini-movie will be remembered for a long time.

I speak as loud as the volume I listen to music, and this is probably symptomatic of my love for pop music: I love pop music because it is often unapologetically in-your-face, it shouts rather than tell, it drives you crazy. And after 21 years loving pop music, I think I’ve completely gone mad. It all started in 1997, when my mum bought me my first cassette: needless to say, it was ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua, and from that point on, it’s been a never-ending loving relationship between me and music. I study, work and live life part-time, and listen to music full-time.
