After a lot of speculation, we can finally confirm that Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil, the original mean girl who has a strong penchant for dabbling in everyone’s (sexual) affairs. Gellar announced the exciting news on her Instagram along with a sweet throwback pic and the caption “That’s right “everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way” #kathrynmerteuil is back!!!”

NBC announced earlier this month that they had placed an order for a Cruel Intentions TV pilot which threw the internet into a joyful frenzy. If the pilot gets picked up (fingers crossed), the series will take place 15 years after the original film ended. The series will reportedly focus on Gellar’s now grown-up Kathryn as she competes for the control of Valmont International, as well as the soul of Bash Casey – the young son of Annette Hargrove and the late Sebastian Valmont.

The older Kathryn has been described as a “smart, sexy, cruel, charismatic, powerful” master manipulator. So basically, not much has changed, and she’s still up to her old tricks. Roger Kumble, the original writer and director of Cruel Intentions, is on board to direct the pilot. The role of Annette (who was played by Reese Witherspoon in the film), is currently being casted.

Now let’s the relive the magic that is the film’s ending below (still one of my favourite movie endings), and keep our fingers crossed that the pilot gets picked up so we can join Kathryn for another one of her morally dubious escapades.
