An animated Game of Thrones series is at the very beginning of its development on HBO Max. Indeed, according to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is currently in talks with potential writers for the Game of Thrones animated series.
However no agreement has been signed yet, so it is quite possible that the series may never come to fruition. HBO Max representatives have declined to comment on the news, and so there are therefore no details available on what the objective of the potential series would be and no writer or talent is currently attached to the project.
It is not yet known whether the series will follow the events of the original series or something different in the world of George R.R. Martin.
However, Variety has announced exclusively that a series based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg is being prepared for HBO. This series is expected to follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Great (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), prior to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire, which served as the basis for Game of Thrones.
These series are part of a broader HBO strategy to further develop the Game of Thrones world for HBO. Indeed George R.R. Martin, has an ongoing agreement with HBO’s parent company, WarnerMedia, for the rights.
