Sam Smith – Lay Me Down | Music Video

Sam Smith has released a video for his track “Lay Me Down”. The video features the funeral of Smith’s husband with a mourning crowd of people, however, at the climax of the track, we see a flashback to the gay couples wedding held in the same church. Smith has reinforced the video’s political statement by saying, “this video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country“.

Smith dedicated the beautifully shot Ryan Hope video to the gay and transgender community. This political edge to pop music is definitely both refreshing and admirable. The video marks the re-release of the lead single from In the Lonely Hour which only peaked at 46 in the UK singles on its debut. “Lay Me Down” has been released to American radio stations this week, and will be officially re-released in the UK on the 15th of March. The video is available here.
