Afro-German Artist Wellingta Returns With ‘Be True’ | Music News

As she gears up to release her highly anticipated debut EP later this year, German R&B singer and songwriter Wellingta is kickstarting her 2021 with her inspirational new single titled “Be True“.

Already building a reputation around her penchant for delivering sultry and infectious R&B-pop bops, Wellingta strikes again on this danceable new offering produced by long-time collaborator PRGRSHN, who has previously worked with the likes of Mahalia, Anne-Marie and Stefflon Don, but is perhaps most known for his seminal work with award-winning UK trio WSTRN.

Driven by its positive and uplifting message, ‘Be True’ sees Wellingta showcasing her sweet raspy pop-leaning vocals and songwriting dexterities, as she rides the R&B and dancehall musical backdrop with global music speckles dotted over it, to glorious effects – the combination of which, makes for a truly addictive listen.

Conceptually, London-based Wellingta says the song was inspired by the idea of staying true to yourself during tough times and no matter the situation, which is especially true in the middle of the current pandemic.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her new single ‘Be True’, Wellingta says, “I have been working with my producer PRGRSHN on my upcoming EP and this track is one of our current favourite tracks, because of the message behind it.

‘Be True’ speaks to how we should strive to be our true selves in these hard times. Some things about you will be similar to others and some will be different. It’s the combination of everything that makes you unique. Let go of what’s out of your control. Learn the lesson, forgive the past and move on”.

For the accompanying music video for “Be True”, which is inspired by early 90’s R&B videos from the likes of Aaliyah, TLC and Janet Jackson, Wellingta has collaborated with video director Jay Money, whose directorial credits include working with Naira Marley, Youngs Teflon, M24 and Oxlade, among others, to bring the lively single further to life.

From the retro location to the warm colour palettes to the hip-hop dancers and even down to the classic valour wardrobe, Wellingta’s “Be True” video is a true nod to the 90’s R&B legends that have inspired her music, watch it below.
