Billboard Announces US Afrobeats Songs Chart In Partnership With AfroNation

On March 22, Billboard announced for the first time, a United States chart for Afrobeats music in partnership with the music festival and global Afrobeats brand AfroNation.

On the 29th of March, the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart will be accessible in real time and will rank the 50 most popular song in the States build on subscriptions, download sales from top music retailers, audio and video music services data.

Speaking about the collaboration, AfroNation founder Obi Asika said, “The last decade has seen Afrobeats explode into a worldwide phenomenon, influencing culture and fashion across the globe and I am humbled to have made a contribution to growing the genre alongside many talented, passionate people”.

While according to Silvio Pietroluongo for Billboard “Billboard is excited to collaborate with Afro Nation on the launch of the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart”.

He continued “As with much of the world, Afrobeats has grown tremendously as a genre in America and we are proud to showcase the top songs and artists with this new weekly ranking”.

During the 2010s, the afrobeats sounds and its influence, supported by mainstream artists such as Beyoncé and Drake, earned massive success in the United States music market.

Unforgettable afrobeat songs include “Essence” from Wizkid & Tems and Burna Boy‘s “Ye“, just to mention a few.

It’s now time to give it recognition.
