After six exciting seasons, full of fancy frocks and a regal roller coaster of drama, ITV’s last season of Downton Abbey came to an end Sunday night. The final episode attracted 8.4 million viewers, making it the most watched episode since November 2013. You can put your tissues away for now though, as there will be a Christmas special which will hopefully tie up some loose ends.
However, there may be more to come from the aristocratic Yorkshire-country estate, as executive producer Gareth Neame has revealed a film really could be in the works. Speculation of a film previously evolved this March when Neame told Deadline that he was “very interested” in the possibility of producing a film: “I can confirm that there have been rumours that there might be a Downton movie. Our position on that is that would be very interested”.
Inevitably, the rumours have resurfaced this November where Neame developed on his previous comments by saying: “We’ve thrown around some ideas for a film, but that’s obviously not something I can talk about now”. Although it hasn’t been officially set in stone, I’m almost certain you Downton devotees would jump on-board instantly. If you missed the season six finale, catch it on ITV Player now.
