New CW show Glamorous isn’t as glamorous as it appears. The new show will star Brooke Shields, who plays Madolyn, the founder and CEO of a very successful cosmetics company, but it isn’t as vacuous as it sounds. The show will explore much deeper meanings than just beauty, focusing on the LGBTQ+ community, as well as including a gender non-conforming character, named Venetia.
Venetia is the intern/assistant and is “deeply connected with Chicago’s queer community and nightlife,” according to Variety.
Though for now we only know of one character of this description, only time will tell whether more and more characters in the LGBTQ+ community will be introduced as the show progresses.
For now, what we do know is that Eva Longoria will be directing the show, her first pilot directing gig to date, after the success she had with Jane The Virgin, Telenova and Devious Maids.
Damon Wayans Jr. will also be directing alongside Longoria, but there has been major controversy surrounding this, since in the past he made anti-LGBTQ+ remarks, but has since apologised with this statement:
“When I was a young comic trying to find my voice, I made some immature and hurtful tweets that I deeply regret at the expense of the LGBTQ community. Society evolved and so have I and it is something I will continue to do both personally and professionally.”
And speaking on the show, he said this:
“When Glamourous was pitched to us I thought it was brilliant, heartwarming and important. We will continue to be committed to pursuing protagonists who don’t traditionally get to be at the center of a show and bringing their stories to the screen.”
