First Trailer Arrives For ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ With Linda Hamilton And Arnold Schwarzenegger | Film Trailer
The first trailer has arrived for Terminator: Dark Fate. This sequel brings original director James Cameron back to the fold in a producing role.
Cameron has been outspoken regarding the Terminator sequels he wasn’t involved in, and Dark Fate is intended to be a direct sequel to his initial follow-up, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The other sequels are now regarded as occurring in alternate timelines. Sci-fi retconning at its finest!
Dark Fate brings back Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and also stars Mackenzie Foy, Natalia Reyes, and Gabriel Luna. Over two decades after the events of Judgment Day, Sarah Connor sets out to protect a young woman and her friends as a liquid metal Terminator sent from the future attempts to terminate them.
The trailer above certainly takes advantage of the improved CGI effects that have developed since Cameron was last on board. The liquid metal Terminator is a nice follow-up to Robert Patrick‘s T-1000, and could be a compelling villain. Whether it can capture the personal menace of Patrick’s antagonist remains to be seen.
Having three female-centric leads from different generations is also a plus, and has similarities to another recent sequel that ignored previous instalments – 2018’s Halloween.
Deadpool director Tim Miller is at the helm this time around. We’ve heard in the past how this Terminator movie is the next great one, and those claims were all quickly disregarded when films like Salvation or Genisys finally arrived. Cameron’s involvement doesn’t guarantee anything, but Dark Fate looks to have plenty of promise.
We’ll see if this sequel was worth vanquishing the others when it hits cinemas Friday, November 1.
