Irish Singer Cherry Dragon Releases New Song ‘Starlight’

Straight out of Dublin, Cherry Dragon has us spellbound with her latest track “Starlight” which has its roots in the neo-soul sensibilities of the great Nina Simone.

Produced by Utters (Chronixx, Maverick Sabre) in London, it’s a song “written about making your own way”. It’s a message that’s delivered over head-nodding, foot-tapping neo-soul tunes with a few piano chords and the singer’s soft, yet powerful voice.

Cherry Dragon, with her Irish and Nigerian heritage, has a strong heritage that is reflected in her music. With an absent father and a mother who taught her no less than 5 religions before she was 7 years old, it is easy to see why her music is so moving and rich.

“My experiences have always influenced me as a person and as an artist, they are sewn into who I am. Growing up in Ireland no one looked like me at the time, I felt being different was a bad thing. It took a bit of time but I’ve learned to be grateful for my differences and I look for that in music too. My playlists range from Dorothy Ashby an amazing jazz artist right through to Khruangbin, Sylvan Esso, Kendrick Lamar to classical composer Max Richter”, she said.
