‘Judas And The Black Messiah’ Filmmaking Team Re-Teaming for New Project

Ryan Coogler, Shaka King, Charles D. King, and Lil Rel Howery, who were all part of the team behind recent Oscar winner Judas And The Black Messsiah, are collaborating once again. All will produce, with Shaka King directing, a new film about American political insurrection.

That’s pretty much all we know in regards to plot, but the Judas And The Black Messiah filmmaking team reuniting for another political film should be enough to get people excited. The film garnered six nominations at the recent Oscars, winning two, and making history as the first Best Picture nominee from an all-Black producing team.

Coogler, who is currently prepping to start filming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will produce for Proximity Media. D. King, the CEO and Founder of Macro, is also backing the film, as is Howery. The latter had a supporting role in Judas And The Black Messiah, but it’s unclear if he’ll appear on screen in this project too.

This announcement is interesting because it was reported a few months ago that Shaka King was being considered to direct the upcoming Superman film being written by Ta-Nehisi Coates. His involvement here doesn’t preclude him from that project, but perhaps makes it likelier that the Superman team is still searching for their director.

We’ll now wait for more information on this currently untitled film. If the filmmaking team can match the quality of Judas And The Black Messiah, we should be in store for another compelling, and possibly award-winning, experience.
