Marques Martin Lights Up With Latin Inspired Jam “Belles” | Music News

2020 has already started strong for Marques Martin with singles “Hailey” and “Candy”, and now the New York rapper, producer, and instrumentalist continues to excite and inspire on his latest single “Belles”.

With a fusion of instrumentation including brass and Latin inspired rhythms, “Belles” is an infectious and rhythmically defining gesture, beautifully paying homage to Marques’ great grandfather, Puerto Rican multi-instrumentalist and musical pioneer Ramon ‘Moncho’ Usera.

His cadence pierces through and gives way to a lyrical stream of consciousness concerning life’s brevity and the necessity for one to embrace an identity that is solely his or her own. An honest approach that is a true nod to his Hip-Hop roots.

Marques proves again that he has a knack for creating ambitious works of art that melt away genre constructs for fluid, experimental appreciation. Such is his track record that he’s already the talk of the likes of i-D, NOTION, COMPLEX and HIGHSNOBIETY while yet an emerging act.

Already making fans out of BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target and Beats 1’s Ebro, not to mention BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac who proclaimed him as “perhaps my favourite new rapper out there“, this young, ambitious, alt rapper with his cult status firmly in the arts college crowds of New York is set to be one of the most exciting finds of the year.
