Rachael Leigh Cook & Damon Wayans Jr. To Star In Netflix Film ‘Love, Guaranteed’ | Film News

Netflix has helped begin a mini romcom renaissance of sorts over the last few years thanks to films such as Set It Up, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and Always Be My Maybe. Considering they also like to push nostalgic content to their audience – think Fuller House, or the 90s-set series Everything Sucks! – it’s no surprise to hear they’ve teamed up with a 90s teen icon for a new movie.

Rachael Leigh Cook – best known for starring in the classic 90s teen drama She’s All That – is set to star in a new Netflix romcom titled Love, Guaranteed alongside Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl, Happy Endings). Cook is also producing, while Mark Steven Johnson is directing. Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy have written the script, having also penned another recent Netflix romcom, Falling Inn Love.

The plot revolves around a hard-working lawyer who has taken one too many pro bono cases. To save her small law firm, she begrudgingly takes a well-paid, high-profile case from Nick, a charming new client wanting to sue a dating website that guarantees users will find love. But the two soon find themselves in the middle of a media storm, and as the case heats up, so do their feelings for each other.

Cook unfortunately never developed into the movie star many expected after her starring roles in the late 90s/early 2000s. She’s spent a lot of time on TV in recent years, co-starring alongside Eric McCormack in the drama Perception and also having a recurring role on Criminal Minds.

Wayans Jr. has developed into an extremely fun supporting presence in a bunch of shows in recent years. To see him in a leading role should be fun and is well deserved. Let’s hope it goes better than his last leading role in a film, the completely forgettable Let’s Be Cops. He’ll next be seen alongside Kristen Wiig in Barb And Star Go To Vista Del Mar.

Netflix release a lot of films that quickly get shunted to the back of their catalogue. But considering how much of their romcoms have been successful recently, expect them to heavily market Love, Guaranteed as they hope for the next romcom hit. Filming will begin this month in Vancouver, Canada.
