In an exciting update for fans of emotive pop ballads, San Francisco singer-songwriter Cate Tomlinson has released her new single titled “Pretty boy”.

This melancholic track, punctuated by haunting vocals and heartbreaking lyrics, marks the third single from Tomlinson’s eagerly anticipated upcoming EP Blueberry Season.

“Pretty Boy” is an evocative song that paints a vivid picture of self-worth in a relationship. It tells the story of a charming yet flawed individual who assumes their partner’s unwavering support regardless of their repeated failings.

The lyrics express the protagonist’s longing for their partner to honor their commitments and live up to their promises despite continuous letdowns.

With a confessional approach, Tomlinson creates a resonating narrative woven with intricate rhymes and breathtaking harmonies.

The track features a compelling bridge reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s style, where she sings: “Once bitten, twice shy, but pretty boy gets one more try, forgiven this time, he’ll leave but I’ll believe in him”.

In terms of production, “Pretty Boy” presents a rich tapestry of sounds, with elements such as Tomlinson’s echoing vocals, the simple yet resonant piano, and haunting strings creating a deeply engaging listening experience.

The song reflects Tomlinson’s dedication and intentionality as an artist, capturing the listener’s attention with every repeated play.

Speaking about the track, Tomlinson reveals, “This song is not about one person for once. I made it about the pretty boy character/phenomenon that I’ve seen played out in my generation and in pop culture–a character who sucks you in and makes it easy to get wrapped up in their life.”

Raised in Palo Alto, California, the 22-year-old artist has developed her unique voice at Northeastern University and is currently based out of Boston. Her music is a diverse blend of pop, soul, and rock, with the upcoming “Blueberry Season” marking her first collaborative work with producers Fil Thorpe and John Sinclair.

In the lead-up to the release of her EP, Tomlinson has been actively performing in Los Angeles, delivering memorable performances at venues like Hotel Cafe, Breaking Sound, and indie festival NextFest LA.

She has already gained significant recognition, with mentions by Rising Artists, Right Chord Music, Kings of A&R, Glasse Factory, Blurred Culture, and Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist.

The five-song EP Blueberry Season delves deeper into the pop-rock genre and narrates Tomlinson’s experiences as she transitions from her late teens into her 20s.

The central themes of vulnerability, heartache, anger, and self-reflection are expected to strike a chord with listeners. With a mix of gut-wrenching ballads and alt-pop anthems, Cate continues to demonstrate her versatility as an artist and innovation as a songwriter.
