Branded by some as the new Buffy, Riverdale writers release new information on the second season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Kiernan Shipka (‘Sabrina’) will return to Netflix on April 5, 2019, alongside costars Ross Lynch and English actress Lucy Davis.
Luckily for writers, the first season’s low expectations (due to Riverdale’s criticism) left viewers pleasantly surprised at the show’s dark and historical themes, which includes references to the Salem Witch Trials.
Different to its predecessor, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Program creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa gives an infernal twist to the production of CAOS (which, ironically, and very fittingly, sounds like ‘chaos’). With writing help from Bronson Pinchot and Lucy Davis, the show excels among adolescents and young adults. Check out the Trailer below:
The Runaways “Cherry Bomb” plays throughout the Part 2 teaser, while Sabrina explores her devilish side at the academy. The song times perfectly with Sabrina entering into womanhood, and the challenges she must face alongside this.
A scene in the teaser depicts the devil standing by her right shoulder, but to the audience, it appears by her left. The mirroring effect the camera takes insinuates a sort of uncertainty as to which path Sabrina must choose.
Her scenes with boyfriend ‘Harvey Kinkle’ and bad boy ‘Gavin Leatherwood’ echo this perception of good and bad, but hopefully season 2 challenges the formula altogether, forcing Sabrina to make difficult, adult choices.
