UK-Based Baroque Pop Duo Gold Spectacles Releases New Single ‘Felines’

Gold Spectacles, based in London, create baroque-pop music with a DIY approach. Their sonic palette toes the line between electronic and organic landscapes, blending the two parallels, drawing on an eclectic range of influences ranging from Paul Simon to Phoenix to Lykke Li.

Their self-titled debut album was well received, garnering notable Spotify playlistings (including Chill Vibes, All New Indie, and New Music Friday UK) as well as radio (including BBC 6 Music, KCRW, Amazing Radio, and CISM 89.3) and blog support (including Indie Shuffle, EARMILK, Hillydilly, Line of Best Fit).

This support has propelled the duo to the top of the Hype Machine several times.’Felines’ is the latest release from Gold Spectacles. ‘Felines,’ written, recorded, and self-produced in their small South London studio, features a prominent bassline, plucky guitars, and a battered mellotron, all while focusing on the dark side of modern life including social debts, raw deals, and loans.

Gold Spectacles shared that Felines’ is a nod to the story of Robert Johnson, who falls to his knees on a crossroads, looking for an exit, and in desperation, makes a deal with a stranger that will change his life forever.

They also added that we’ve all felt like cogs in the machine lately, as if we’re doing all the work to save fat cats in high places without even lifting a finger. We’d most likely sign the same contract, with the same terms, at the same fork in the road. Regardless of the cost.
