John Legend To Perform At Texas Prison To Protest Against Mass Incarceration | Music News
John Legend is to perform in protest against mass incarceration at a correctional facility in Austin, Texas, the performance is set to take place on the 16th of April. He will be participating in a press conference on the same day too, with state legislators, to discuss the current Texas criminal justice system. His own initiative that stands against mass incarceration is called ‘Free America’. “We have a serious problem with incarceration in this country. It’s destroying families, it’s destroying communities and we’re the most incarcerated country in the world, and when you look deeper and look at the reasons we got to this place, we as a society made some choices politically and legislatively, culturally to deal with poverty, deal with mental illness in a certain way and that way usually involves using incarceration“, John Legend said, expressing his fight for the cause.
