Musicians Express Support For LGBTQ+ Community With More Love Letters | Music News

Since the Stonewall riots of the late ’60s which paved the way for LGBTQ+ rights, June has been dubbed national Pride month. This means that many LGBTQ-related events are reserved for June, including Billboard‘s 2017 project titled “Love Letters To The LGBTQ Community“.

Beginning earlier this month, Billboard have been collating letters from notable figures such as lesbian duo Tegan And Sara, Sia, Selena Gomez, and Britney Spears. As of June 20, a few more names have been added to that list including Jennifer Lopez, Halsey, and Brendon Urie, equating to over eighty letters in total.

These letters express gratitude and support towards the community, the love that they are so willing to offer as fans, and the inspiration bred as a result.

Comparing the treatment of the LGBTQ+ community from the twentieth century to now, the difference is overwhelming. Whilst progress is obvious, however, we still have more to do to ensure that their rights are met. Thankfully, letters like these prove that they still have plenty of support, from people in and out of the community.
